The practice of Yoga has positioned itself among the most popular physical activities in the world. It is an ancient discipline with multiple benefits for the human being on a physical, mental, and spiritual level. It is recommended for building strength, flexibility, regulating stress, anxiety and even for rejuvenation of the spirit.

When deciding to practice physical activity, it is of great importance to carefully choose the tools and clothing that will be used to make it a comfortable experience. Paying attention to the functionality, comfort, and durability of garments is as important as being clear about the type of activity to be performed.

Today there are innumerable options on the market concerning yoga sportswear, as well as the diversity of fabrics, colors, and fibers that can be adjusted to our tastes and requirements.

For a long time, the cotton garments were number one for many, but with time and the demands of different types of exercises and sports, such as athletics, football, gymnastics, and yoga, it became evident that the cotton simply wasn’t the best fabric. It is because:

  • It absorbs sweat instead of evaporating.
  • It doesn’t dry easily.
  • Strong odors remain in the clothes, no matter how many times they are washed.

So, what should you keep in mind when selecting garments to exercise or practice yoga?

  • First, know exactly what type of practice you want to perform.

Many people think that Yoga is a relaxation practice alone. It indeed stimulates the nervous system, ensuring relaxation and control of emotions, but it is also true that the smooth practice of asanas, especially the practices of Hatha Yoga, Ashtanga Yoga or Vinyasa Yoga, will make you sweat, ensuring the purification of the body.

  • There are types of lycra or leggings fabrics designed for durability, perspiration, and resistance so that movements can be carried out with freedom and confidence, adding to this comfort and adapting the contours of the body.

For example, garments containing fibers such as Coolmax, Supplex, Spandex or Elastane, help control body temperature by keeping clothes and body dry and releasing us from sudden changes in temperature that can lead to a cold or discomfort after the practice of Yoga or any physical activity.

  • A garment that feels light and comfortable makes a difference when performing physical activities, also the way you feel and look is important, giving confidence. It is a game of emotions. That is why more and more appealing designs are being marketed, and more brands join in the mission of satisfying the demands of their customers by creating designs for all tastes and body contours.
  • There is no excuse for not giving movement and entertainment to our bodies. There is a diversity of fabrics, fibers and even budgets for each one of us.

Yoga contributes to the well-being, flexibility, and strengthening of mind and body.

I hope you enjoy your practice.
